Osmo-dried mango fruits.
Country: India Category: Processing Technologies Detail : Osmo-drying is a novel approach to get quality product with retention of good color and characteristics flavor. Due to osmosis process, there is a reduction in energy consumption in subsequent drying operations. Reduction in bulk density after osmo-drying and product will have firm texture. The osmo-dried fruit segments are ready to eat (RTE) kind of product with good chew ability. The product has less moisture content and water activity so they are microbiologically safe and stable product with longer shelf life in packed form. It provides high calorific value (Kcal energy) due to enhancement in solid density and good nutrition. The osmo-dried products are good source of minerals like potassium and calcium. Standardisation of gel formation process.
Country: India Category: Processing Technologies Detail : Standardisation of gel formation process of mango, guava, papaya, muskmelon, banana, pineapple, orange, tomato pulp has been carried out using different levels of pulp (50 to 100 per cent), sodium alginate (0.75 to 1.75 per cent), glucono-o-lactone (0.8 to 1.0 per cent) and calcium salt (0.6 to 1.0 per cent) followed by further processing by thermal processing, freeze drying and hurdle technology to extend shelf life. Shelf stability of hurdle technology-based restructured mango, papaya, tomato, orange, muskmelon in polypropylene pouches within paper-aluminium foil/polyethylene packets has been found to range from six to 10 months at room temperature and four to six months at 37℃ depending on the product. Shelf-stable restructured fruit products are suitable for direct consumption during off season Data is being collected from Click here

Management of shoot gall psylla in mango
Country: India Category: Crop Management Technologies Detail : The insecticides i.e. thiamethoxam 1 g/ liter of water + profenophos 2 ml/ liter of water + sticker 1/ 2 ml/ liter of water have been found most promising in management of shoot gall psylla in mango. Two applications of both the insecticides were suggested, first spraying should be done in third week of August and second spraying be done 15 days after first spraying. The spraying of these insecticides by the farmers on the recommendation of KVK, Dehradun not only managed the incidence of shoot gall psylla but also doubled the productivity of mango. Pruning and girdling of mango tree to boost production.
Country: India Category: Production Technologies Detail : Pruning and girdling have resulted in optimum flowering and fructification in mango trees. The fruits would be ready to be plucked a month early and they could be in the market by April. Rajesh Shah of Valsad (Gujarat) started girdling and pruning of the trees in July 2013 for the first time. "Girdling should not be more than one inch deep even if a tree's trunk is of 10 inch width. Only half the branches should be girdled and that too when the humidity is at 70 degree and under an expert's guidance. This reduces the need for fertilizer by half and ensures maximum fruits on a tree," Rajesh Shah said. Data is being collected from Click here
