Growth and yield performance of mango varieties under rainfed areas of Jammu.

Abstract : An investigation was carried out to evaluate different cultivars of mango for their performance growth, flowering and yield grown under rainfed areas of Jammu. The experiment with eight mango cultivars was laid out in a randomized block design having three replications as one mango tree acts as single replication. Tree height (5.82 m), tree volume (389.97 m3) and tree spread of 8.09 m in east-west direction was maximum in Langra, while Dashehari recorded maximum trunk girth of 88.03 cm. Dashehari and Mallika were the first to come into full bloom, whereas Varun and Rajiv were the last. Langra recorded the maximum panicles per plant (294.67) followed by Dashehari (290.33), while minimum number of panicles were recorded in Varun (71.67). The number of flowers per panicle was maximum in Dashehari (4174.17). The highest percentage of fruit set was registered in Dashehari (20.20%), whereas it was the lowest in Rajiv (11.60%). The highest fruit drop percentage was observed in Rajiv (88.40%) followed by Varun (87.20%), while it was minimum in Dashehari (79.80%). In most of the cultivars, the date of harvesting ranged from 3rd to 4th week of June. The maximum yield per tree to the tune of 42.98 kg was recorded in Langra.
