Abstract : A disease characterized by oval lesions with star-shaped cracks on fruits and black angular lesions on leaves was observed in southern Qd. in 1977. Further surveys revealed the same disease in all the principal mango growing areas of the State so that the date of introduction is not recent. Diseased tissue yielded isolates of a bacterium identical with Pseudomonas mangiferae-indicae. The severity of the disease in some low rainfall areas was attributed to predisposition by soils with low nutritional status.
