Notes on weevils (Curculionidae: Coleoptera) of the Bangladesh Agricultural University area, Mymensingh.

Abstract : A list is given of 31 species of Curculionidae recorded from Bangladesh during a survey in 1975-77, on a wide variety of food-plants including mango and other tropical fruit-trees, sweet potato, pulse crops, cereals and grasses; some of these weevils were serious economic pests. Species recorded for the first time in Bangladesh included Tanymecus versutus Faust on pulses and Cyrtepistomus sp. on Ziziphus jujuba. Some of the heaviest infestations were found on mango (Myllocerus discolor Boh., also on litchi and Z. jujuba, in February-July, Alcidodes frenatus (Faust) in April-July, Deporaeus marginatus (Pasc.) in June-August, Rhynchaenus mangiferae Mshl. and Sternochetus frigidus (F.) (Cryptorhynchus frigidus), on sweet potato (Cylas formicarius (F.)), and on arhar [Cajanus cajan] (Apion clavipes Gerst.).
