Studies on biennial bearing in mango: III. Cessation of shoot growth and flowering.

Abstract : Four-year studies were carried out with mature trees of the mango cvs Langra (showing marked biennial bearing), Bombai (normally bearing biennially), Fazli (moderately biennial) and Himsagar (showing moderately regular bearing). Shoot emergence, shoot length and diameter, and flowering were determined. The data are tabulated. Shoots which ceased to grow in length in March and to grow in diameter in June in an on year and ceased to grow in length in March and in diameter in October in an off year generally produced the most flowers. Shoot growth in length beyond March and in diameter beyond October had an inhibiting effect on flowering.
