Abstract : Selected branches on 40-year-old trees were treated with Alar [daminozide] or Cycocel [chlormequat], each at 5000 p.p.m. Both substances enhanced leaf thickness and increased the number and length of palisade cells. A reduction in the number of stomata and an increase in their size was also noted. The effect of Cycocel was more pronounced than that of Alar.
