Effect of urea-formaldehyde as a slow release nitrogen fertilizer on productivity of mango trees.

Abstract : Urea-formaldehyde (UF) (38% N) was used as a slow release nitrogen fertilizer comparing with the traditional urea (46% N) on Fagri Kalan mango trees grown under loamy sand soil conditions in Egypt. The effect of three doses of UF namely 1000, 750 and 500 gm N/tree on mineral content, yield and fruit quality was compared with 1000 gm N/tree as the traditional urea. Results indicated that UF treatments had a positive effect on leave mineral content, yield either as number of fruits or weight kg per tree and fruit quality than the traditional urea. In this respect, UF at 1000 and 750 gm N/tree significantly raised N and K percentage, also increased fruit set, fruit retention per panicle, yield and improved fruit quality in comparing with 1000 gm N/tree of traditional urea, while there was no significant difference between UF doses at 1000 and 750 gm N. So, it can be recommend by using UF at 750 gm N/tree, since this treatment enhanced nitrogen and potassium content in the leaves, increased fruit set, number of fruit retention per panicle, number of fruits per tree and yield weight, also improved fruit quality as fruit weight and total soluble solids compared with the traditional urea.
