Abstract : Twenty-one species of non-indigenous fruit flies (Tephritidae) have been intercepted on plant material imported into England and Wales by the Plant Health and Seeds Inspectorate. Nineteen of these species were non-European, and are, therefore, quarantine listed for the European Union. Species from all five of the economically important genera (Anastrepha, Bactrocera, Ceratitis, Dacus and Rhagoletis) were among those intercepted, with Bactrocera zonata (Saunders), an important pest of peach, mango and guava the species intercepted most frequently. Despite the frequent interceptions on imported produce, so far no non-native tephritid species have become established in the United Kingdom.
