Abstract : There are different methods designed to estimate leaf area, which are classified as destructive, non-destructive and estimating ones. This work was aimed at establishing a non-destructive approach for estimating leaf area in mango (Manguifera indica L.) and avocado (Persea spp.) seedlings by using its leaf lineal measurements. It was conducted in nurseries devoted to fruit seedling production and marketing. Mango and avocado plants were sampled 120 days after being transplanted (ddt) to bags containing substrates combined by different sources, since it was considered the right time to record leaf surface. Regression analyses were performed by applying Y=a+b*X lineal pattern besides using Statgraphics 5.1 plus for Windows program, selecting just highly adjusted equations. For both fruits, moderately strong relationships were achieved between the analyzed variables, standing out leaf area correlations with the product of leaf length by its width, it being statistically significant for a value of P?0.01**.
