Fruit set, growth and yield potential of some coloured varieties of mango.

Abstract : A trial was conducted with 12 cultivars of coloured mango, namely Alphonse Bombai, Alphonse Poona, Gulabkhas, Hushnara, Moovendun, Sunder Prasad, Surkhverma, Zarda, Champakelwa, Pairi, Sinduriya and Zardalu, in Sabour, Bihar, during 2001 and 2002. The maximum fruit set per panicle was observed in Alphonso Poona (62.50), while the minimum was observed in Surkhverma (26.83). Fruit maturity was maximum in Sinduriya (122.00 days) and minimum in Sunder Prasad (90.83 days). The heaviest fruit was observed in Surkhverma (10.61×7.56 cm). The highest number of fruits per plant was recorded in Hushnara (1145.50), while in terms of weight it was maximum (198.06 kg) in Alphonso Bombai. Pulp weight was also observed maximum (146.10 kg per plant) in Alphonso Bombai.
