Evaluation of mango varieties and hybrids performance in lataritic soils under rainfed conditions.

Abstract : An experiment was conducted during 2002 under rainfed conditions on lateritic soils situated in the coastal belt of Andhra Pradesh, India, to evaluate the performance of 11 cultivars (Rumani, Chinna Suvarnarekha, Pedda Suvarnarekha, Neelam, Baneshan, Banglora, Prodduturu Avakai, Pedda Rasam, Cheruku Rasam, Royal Special and Panchadara Kalasa) and 8 hybrids (Swarna Jahangir, Neelgoa, A.U. Rumani, Neeluddeen, Deshehri × V. Muhammad, Neeleshan, Manjeera and Mallika) of 9-year-old mango plants. Neeleshan recorded the highest fruit number (500), fruit weight (350 g) and yield (175 kg per tree).
