Abstract : Postharvest losses in mangoes range from 25 to 40% from harvesting to the consumption stage. If proper methods of harvesting, handling, transport and storage are adopted, such losses could be minimized. Hence, there is a need to adopt technologies and strategies to ensure longer shelf life. There are several technologies to promote longer shelf life, such as cold storage, controlled atmosphere/modified atmosphere storage, hypobaric storage, irradiated storage, storage in chemicals, and use of coatings. It is also essential that postharvest operations, such as grading, packaging and precooling, are adopted to enhance the efficiency of the preservation techniques. This paper reviews different techniques for handling and storage of mango fruits.
