Flowering and production of mango fruits (Mangifera indica L.) cv. Rosa promoted by different paclobutrazol doses.

Abstract : Efficient techniques such as floral induction allow the establishment of commercialization strategies for favourable periods of market and economical success in the cultivation of mango fruits. An experiment, was conducted in order to study the effect of different paclobutrazol doses (PBZ) on the flowering and production of mango cv. Rosa fruits. The treatments were composed of: (T1) control (only water); (T2) 0.40 g a.i. PBZ/m canopy; (T3) 0.80 g a.i. PBZ/m canopy; and (T4) 1.20 g a.i. PBZ/m canopy. The evaluation consisted of the following characteristics: flowering anticipation, and number of fruits per plant. The obtained results were submitted to regression analysis and Dunnet test. It was observed that there was a higher percentage of flowering and fruit production for T2, T3 and T4 compared with the control. The PBZ treatment also anticipated flower initiation and fruit harvest, which means that out of season production provides higher prices and more profitability.
