Abstract : Mango industry plays a very important role in the fruit economy of India, inspite of the fact that there has not been much increase in production as well as in the productivity due to low adoption of technologies by mango orchardists. Considering the above fact, the present study was conducted to assess the knowledge and adoption level of orchardists regarding mango cultivation in mango cultivation zones of Western Uttar Pradesh. Out of 7 zones, two ever promising zones of mango cultivation, viz., Behat (district Saharanpur) and Siyana (district Bulandsahar) were selected. Through descriptive research design, from each district one block, from each block five villages and from each village 10% mango orchardists from the total were randomly selected comprising the total sample size of 188 orchardists. The results revealed that knowledge level of orchardists in mango cultivation is very low in respect of new varieties, nursery preparation, methods of land preparation, propagation method, fertilizer management, intercropping, use of chemicals postharvest care, grading, marketing and processing of fully known to 76.60% orchardists. The adoption of new and improved techniques of mango cultivation was very low and in traditional style only. The main reason for the same was lack of knowledge and awareness regarding new practices, lack of scientific knowledge and lack of soil testing laboratory.
