Effect of pruning of shoots after harvest for the induction of new vegetative growth in mango (Mangifera indica L.) cv. Baneshan.

Abstract : A study was conducted during June 2000-July 2002 in Andhra Pradesh, India to evaluate the effect of shoot pruning after harvest on the induction of new vegetative growth in mango cv. Baneshan. Treatments were pruning (10 cm) or no pruning, and subsequent spraying twice with urea at 2% and copper oxychloride at 0.3%. Parameters tested included: days for sprouting of buds after pruning; shoot sprout percentage; bud number sprouted/per shoot; and number of new laterals developed per shoot. The highest values for shoot sprout percentage, bud number sprouted and number of laterals were obtained under pruning treatment. Pruning increased bearing unit and productivity.
