Effect of cultar and NAA on flowering and fruiting of mango (Mangifera indica L.) cv Langra.

Abstract : A field experiment was conducted in 2000-01 in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, India, to evaluate the effects of Cultar [paclobutrazol], applied alone (2.50, 3.75 and 5.00 g a.i./ha) and in combination with NAA (20 ppm), on the flowering and fruiting of 10-year-old mango cv. Langra trees. Cultar was applied by drenching on 15 August 2000, while NAA was applied by spraying at the pea stage on 25 March 2001. The earliest panicle emergence (162 days) was observed on trees applied with Cultar at 3.75 and 5.00 g a.i./ha. The maximum number of flowering shoots/m2 (n=30.32) and percentage of flowering shoots (96.15%) were recorded in trees applied with Cultar at 5.00 g a.i./ha. The maximum yield per tree (68.12 kg), yield per hectare (106.25 q/ha), and yield increase over the control (29.85%) were recorded in trees applied with Cultar at 5.00 g a.i./ha in combination with 20 ppm NAA. The flowering and fruiting of mango was significantly increased by 7-30% with the application of Cultar.
