Susceptibility "in vitro" to iprodione, growth rate and pathogenicity to Rosa sp. of Botrytis cinerea strains.

Abstract : Six B. cinerea strains from rose, strawberry, lisianthus and mango were evaluated regarding the susceptibility in vitro to the fungicide iprodione, and growth and pathogenicity to Rosa sp.. The susceptibility to iprodione was evaluated by determining the inhibition of mycelial growth and of conidial germination at concentrations of 0, 1, 10 and 100 ?g/ml of a.i.. Two methods were used; fungicide incorporation into PDA growth medium and a method using cellophane paper as described by Nelly (1978). Growth rates on PDA were measured daily, and pathogenicity to Rosa sp. was checked by petal inoculation with conidial suspension, followed by evaluation of the severity of the disease. The strains had different levels of susceptibility. Iprodione inhibited mycelial growth of all isolates. As regards conidial germination, two strains were completely inhibited at 10 ?g/ml, whereas one showed no inhibition at all studied concentrations. In general, isolates where conidial germination was less susceptible to iprodione had inferior growth rates and were less pathogenic. The strains from strawberry, lisianthus and mango were pathogenic to Rosa sp.
