Screening of antagonistic microorganisms to control anthracnose disease on "Nam Dorkmai" mango leaves.

Abstract : Some 267 microorganisms, including fungi, bacteria and yeast were isolated from leaves, blossom and fruit skin of mango. Some 146 isolates of bacteria and yeast were tested for their inhibition on growth of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides [Glomerella cingulata], a causal agent of anthracnose, on PDA. Seventy-four bacterial isolates inhibited the growth of fungal mycelia by 24.5-49.1%. Forty highly effective isolates were further tested for the potential to reduce anthracnose lesion development on detached leaves of mango at 24 h after inoculation of the pathogen. Results indicated that 12 isolates reduced disease severity by 48.61-86.11%. Application of these bacteria 24 h prior to the inoculation of a pathogen reduced disease severity from 15.39 to 61.54% in which isolates BB133, BB167 and BB165 showed a good reduction of disease severity by 61.54, 56.41 and 51.29%, respectively. While Trichoderma harzianum CB-Pin-01 reduced disease severity by 46.16%.
