Abstract : A study was conducted between June and September 1993 to identify fruit fly species associated with mangoes in Morogoro, Tanzania. Two different species were found. One was identified as the Marula fruit fly, Ceratitis cosyra. The other species could not be identified with certainty but was thought to belong to the genus Bactrocera. Morphological evaluation indicated that this species belongs to the B. dorsalis complex. This species, which provides a serious threat to fruit production, is reported for the first time in Tanzania.
