Abstract : One-year-old malformed saplings containing mites were pruned to leave single malformed buds and these were treated with 0.1% diazinon emulsion at monthly intervals to keep the saplings mite-free. As a result of the treatment malformed buds developed normally and the seedlings were still healthy after 15 months. In another experiment 9 mature mango trees with varying degrees of floral malformation were subjected to the following separate treatments: (a) no treatment, (b) pruning and (c) pruning and 0.1% diazinon spraying. The last treatment gave the lowest degree of malformation (16-35%) compared with the untreated trees (72-83%).
