Nutritional studies in Amrapali mango under high-density planting.

Abstract : The effects of N fertilizer and Azotobacter chroococcum on the performance of mango cv. Amrapali were studied in New Delhi, India during 1997 and 1998. Two strains of A. chroococcum (M-4 and CBD-15) were applied at 15 g per plant in combination with various levels of N fertilizer (standard rate of 145 g per tree, 96 g per tree, and 48 g per tree). A. chroococcum was applied to the rhizosphere (1.25 m) of each plant at a depth of 30 cm around the trunk. N as urea was applied at 15 days after the application of A. chroococcum. Treatment with 145 g N per plant and A. chroococcum CBD-15 gave the greatest increase in shoot length (25.52%), fruit weight (136.13 g), and ?-carotene content (18.67 mg/100 g pulp). The highest TSS [total soluble solids] (23.64%) and ascorbic acid (45.53 mg/100 g pulp) contents were obtained with 96 g N per plant and A. chroococcum CBD-15. The highest yields were recorded for 145 (23.89 kg per plant) and 96 g N per plant (23.74 kg per plant) with C. chroococcum CBD-15. The results suggested that 96 g N per plant in combination with C. chroococcum CBD-15 was optimum for the improvement of the yield and quality of mango under high-density planting.
