Effect of drip irrigation and mulch on mango yield and its fruits quality characters.

Abstract : An experiment was conducted in Raipur, Madhya Pradesh, India, during 1997-98 and 1999-2000 to investigate the effect of drip irrigation (DI) on mango (cv. Dashehari) yield and fruit quality. The treatments consisted of basin irrigation (BI) through surface method (control; T1); BI with V volume of water (VOW) and plastic mulch (T2); DI with V VOW (T3); DI with V VOW and plastic mulch (T4); DI with 0.8 V VOW (T5); DI with 0.8 V VOW and plastic mulch (T6); DI with 0.6 V VOW (T7); DI with 0.6 V VOW and plastic mulch (T8); DI with 0.4 V VOW (T9); and DI with 0.4 V VOW and plastic mulch (T10). T8 recorded significantly the highest yield of 28.99 tonnes/ha, with the best weed control efficiency (90.20%) and highest number of fruits per tree (366.17). The same treatment was found superior in terms of fruit size, pulp percentage, peel percentage, stone percentage, total soluble solids and pulp:stone ratio.
