Standardization of mango based cropping system for sustainable production.

Abstract : Field experiments were conducted on mango in Ranchi, Bihar, India, during 1999/2000 and 2000/01 to standardize intercropping for mango orchards. The treatments comprised mango cv. Langra intercropped with black gram (cv. Local), cowpea (cv. Arka Garima), French bean (cv. Arka Komol), rice (cv. Birsa Gora-102), and turmeric (cv. Roma). A significantly high rice equivalent yield was obtained from turmeric-mango intercropping during 1999/2000 (76.50 q/ha) and 2000/01 (75.00 q/ha). The maximum height of the tree (26.10 cm) and trunk girth (15.90 cm) were observed with cowpea-mango intercropping. The spread diameter of the tree was maximum with turmeric-mango intercropping (28.85 cm).
