Association study for pickle purpose mangoes (Mangifera indica L.).

Abstract : The length, diameter and volume of fruit, fruit weight, pericarp weight, and stone weight of mango fruits at full maturity stage was recorded during 1997 and 1999 in Ranchi, Bihar, India. All the traits, except stone weight were significantly and positively correlated. The highest correlation was observed for pericarp weight and fruit weight (0.991) followed by pericarp weight and volume of fruit (0.917), fruit weight and volume of fruit (0.910), fruit weight and diameter of fruit (0.909) and pericarp weight, and fruit diameter (0.904). The linear regression equations between pericarp weight and other pertinent traits showed that a 1 cm increase in fruit length and diameter increased in pericarp weight by 27.15 and 37.14 g, respectively, while a 1 cc increase in fruit volume increased pericarp weight by 0.98 g. A 1 g increase in fruit and stone weight increased pericarp weight by 0.92 and 2.56 g, respectively.
