Abstract : This chapter reviews the distribution, importance and control of diseases of mango (Mangifera indica), together with characteristics and production of the fruit. Mango is affected by numerous diseases, which damage seedlings and grafted plants, decrease fruit set and retention and cause important pre- and postharvest problems on fruit. Important diseases include alternaria rot (Alternaria alternata), anthracnose (Glomerella cingulata), bacterial black spot (Xanthomonas campestris pv. mangiferaeindicae), malformation caused by Fusarium species and powdery mildew (Oidium mangiferae).
