Abstract : Decline is a term used to describe a tree that is generally deteriorating. This deterioration may be caused by many factors. The symptoms often result because the translocation system of the tree has been disrupted. The root system may be restricted or damaged. The trunk tissues may be blocked, wounded or infected by some agents. Decline also results when the food reserves of trees are depleted. This malady recently emerged in an epidemic especially in shisham [Dalbergia sissoo] and mango. Therefore, a survey and some basic studies were started. Ten sites (forest, field, canal, water channel bank, river bank, road side, rail track side, schools and colleges, graveyard and forest nurseries) were selected to determine the severity of tree decline in Pakistan. Results showed that decline is present in most of the forest and fruit trees but severity is pronounced in shisham, mango and kikar [Acacia nilotica].
