Abstract : An experiment was conducted in Ceará, Brazil during January-December 1999 to determine the production and quality of mango (cv. Tommy Atkins) fruits after paclobutrazol application. The treatments comprised of paclobutrazol (0, 1000 and 1500 mg/litre), ethephon (1 ml/litre), and 4% KNO3. Paclobutrazol at 1000 and 1500 mg/litre increased the number of fruits per plant by 280 and 250%, respectively. The average soluble solids content and total acidity was 11.09 and 0.45%, respectively, regardless of the treatment. Paclobutrazol increased the productivity but did not affect the postharvest quality of Tommy Atkins.
