Resistance of immature mango fruits to Caribbean fruit fly (Diptera: Tephritidae).

Abstract : Immature mango slices were artificially infested with Caribbean fruit fly (Anastrepha suspensa) eggs in the laboratory. The mean percentage of emergence of adults, relative to emergence from control media, varied from 0% for cultivar 'Saigon Seedling' (M13269) to 35.7% for cultivar 'Keitt'. Immature mangoes supported only 2-59% of the emergence compared with mature fruits of the same cultivars. Resistant cultivars may possibly be coupled with preharvest insecticide treatments to reduce fruit fly infestations to below the level of quarantine concern.
