Abstract : Panxi Hongmang is a chance seedling, selected in 1987 from among 60?000 seedlings sown in 1982-84. Trials showed it was a very promising new variety, maturing in mid-late July. Fruits are elongated-ovate in shape, weigh 158.4-201.3 g, and have a purplish skin which turns bright red when ripe. The flesh is orange-yellow, fine, tender and aromatic, with a soluble solids content of 20-23% and few fibres. Eating quality is very good. The trees are productive and adaptable to the dry and hot mountainous Jinshajiang River valley.
