Effect of post-harvest treatment on shelf-life and quality of mango.

Abstract : Fruits of mango (Mangifera indica) Sipia were treated with diluted solution of hydrochloric acid or 250 ppm gibberellic acid with or without 500 ppm bavistin (carbendazim) or 500 ppm bavistin alone. In the fruits stored at room temperature, all the treatments showed higher ripening index values than the untreated control. The 250 ppm GA3 treatment was most effective in delaying the ripening during storage and minimized weight loss. Bavistin (500 ppm) reduced fruit-rot, and increased TSS (total soluble solids), while acidity and ascorbic acid contents decreased steadily with increasing duration of storage irrespective of treatments. Among all the treatments, 250 ppm GA3 and 500 ppm bavistin alone and in combination retained the highest marketable value, organoleptic rating with consumers acceptability.
