Abstract : The importance of sowing depth of mango stones was investigated at Rajendranagar, India. Stones were placed at depths of 1, 2, 3 and 4 cm in rows 30 cm apart. The seed beds were irrigated twice a week. The time taken for germination was 17.8, 33.0 and 23.4 days for seeds placed at depths of 1, 2 and 4 cm, respectively. The fastest time taken to 50% germination was 29.9 days for seeds at 1 cm depth. A comparison of the growth of plants grafted onto rootstocks raised in seedbeds and those raised in containers, showed that after 60 days there was no significant difference.
