Relation between trap catch of Bactrocera dorsalis Hendel and abiotic factors.

Abstract : Bactrocera dorsalis, a serious pest of mangoes, was monitored using methyl eugenol traps at an experimental farm in Karnataka. The trap catch was high between the months of May to August, which synchronised with the maturity of several susceptible mango cultivars. The trap catch study carried out for two years was correlated with abiotic factors and it was found that it showed significant positive correlation with minimum temperature and wind speed. The trap data of the first week could serve as an useful index to predict fruitfly population of subsequent weeks, especially 8th week with the maximum coefficient of determination equal to 36%, based on a linear model. The coefficient of determination improved with a polynomial model to 39%. Other non-linear models like logarithmic, power and exponential had lower coefficient of determination.
