Abstract : Developing Dashehari mango fruits contained 3 auxins, one of which was identified as IAA, and a growth inhibitor identified as abscisic acid. Gibberellin-like substances were also detected. The maximum concentrations of auxins and gibberellins occurred in the immature seed and their production was greatest during the major period of fruit growth 3-9 weeks after pollination. Abscisic acid was synthesized mainly in the pericarp; its activity was greatest at the start of fruit growth and decreased gradually 38-45 days after pollination. The probable role of these growth substances in fruit drop and alternate bearing is discussed. [For related work see HcA 41, 5114-5116].
