Morpho-physiological changes in response to photoperiod in mango (Mangifera indica L.).

Abstract : The photoperiodic responses of mango cultivars Totapuri, Langra, Neelum and Rumani, differing in vigour and bearing habits, were studied under pot culture conditions for 3 consecutive years. The morphological attributes, plant height, leaf number and stem girth were higher under normal (11-13 h) or longer (16 h) photoperiods than under shorter (8 h) photoperiods. However, photoperiodic response was cultivar specific. Flower induction was not under direct photoperiodic control. Zeatin riboside, abscisic acid and ethylene contents were higher under longer photoperiods, in general. Cv. Langra showed poor flowering and longer juvenility with lower contents of endogenous growth regulators.
