Abstract : This study was carried out in 1993-95 on 16- to 17-year-old bearing trees of the mango cultivars Dasheri, Langra, Chausa and Fazri. Paclobutrazol (PBZ; 2.3 g/m of tree canopy radius, mixed with water) was applied in September/October. Seeds from untreated control trees produced only one main stem during germination and subsequent growth up to 60 days. However, seeds from PBZ-treated trees produced more than 2-5 shoots on each main stem. Multi-branching as a result of PBZ treatment was due to the death of apical shoot apices.
