Experiment of trunk cut and girdling for mango trees.

Abstract : During 1996-97, a trial was conducted with 4-year-old mango cv. Tianyang Xiangmarg trees. The trunk was cut or girdled in November - 2 cuts 2.5-3.0 cm apart and to the depth of the xylem were made in the trunk 20 cm above the soil surface; the girdling width was 4-5 cm. Treatments were covered with polyethylene film for 6 months. Results showed cutting and girdling could induce the tree to continually produce inflorescences, thereby increasing production. Yields of cut and girdled trees were 6.9% and 7.4% higher, respectively, than those of controls.
