Abstract : The actual annual losses of N, P, K, Ca and Mg incurred as a result of fruit harvest and leaf abscission of mango cv. Sensation trees, grown in sand culture and in the field in South Africa, were determined. The quantity of each element, fixed in the various tissues of the tree, was also determined. Results suggested that nutritional requirements could be expressed in terms of the mass (kg) of fruits produced. If yield information is unreliable or unavailable, then nutritional requirements could be based on the stem circumference (cm) of representative trees in the orchard. Leaf and soil analyses can be used to adjust these guideline quantities where necessary.
