Vegetative characteristics at full grown stage of some elite mango cultivars.

Abstract : These investigations were carried out under Faisalabad climatic conditions during 1988-89 on Malda, Anwar Ratual, Sindhri and Banganpalli, full grown mango cultivars. Various vegetative characters were studied. Colour of newly emerged leaves was light reddish brown in Malda, orange green in Banganpalli, light green with brownish 'tinge in Anwar Ratual and Sindhri while colour of mature leaves was Spanish green in all cultivars. Shape of the leaves was lanceolate in Sindhri, oval lanceolate in Malda and Anwar Ratual and oblong in Banganpalli, Leaf apex was sub-accuminate in Malda and Banganpalli, accuminate in Anwar Ratual and acute in Sindhri. Margin of leaf was flat and entire in Malda and Sindhri, respectively, and slightly reflexed in remaining cultivars. Position of leaf was out held in all cultivars except Anwar Ratual which was up-held. Sindhri attained the maximum height (7.44 m) followed by Anwar Ratual (7.14 m), Banganpalli (6.95 m) and Malda had the minimum (6.53 m) while spread was maximum in Anwar Ratual followed by Banganpalli, Malda and Sindhri in descending order. Conclusively, all varieties were found to differ in their size, height, spread and leaf characteristics.
