Mango yield and quality as affected by irrigation intervals.

Abstract : Three irrigation intervals viz., 7, 14 and 21 days were evaluated on the basis of their effects on the yield and quality of mango fruit. During 1987 maximum yield was noted from the trees where irrigation done at 14 days interval followed by 7 days interval while minimum yield was obtained from trees irrigated at 21 days interval. Maximum fruit size, weight and acidity was noted in the fruit where irrigation done at 7 days interval followed by 14 days interval while minimum where irrigation was done at 21 days interval. Total soluble solids (TSS) and TSS/acid ratio were maximum in 21 days interval followed by 14 days interval and minimum with 7 days interval. Almost, similar trend was noted during 1988 in all these parameters studied. Conclusively, 14 days irrigation interval is recommended for mango under Shujabad-Multan climatic conditions, throughout the year except November-February where irrigation done at one month interval.
