Species of Anastrepha (Diptera: Tephritidae) in the citrus fruit producing zone of the municipalities of Rio Verde and Ciudad Fernández, S.L.P.

Abstract : The species of Anastrepha in the citrus fruit-producing municipalities of Rio Verde and Ciudad Fernandez, San Luis Potosi, Mexico were identified and the extent of damage due to these pests were studied. A. ludens, A. obliqua, A. serpentina, A. fraterculus and A. chiclayae were isolated. A. ludens predominated, with a population density percentage of 99.94%. In the fruit samples, A. ludens infested citrus, mangoes and duraznos [Prunus persica]. Mangoes were also infested with A. oblicua. The number of insects captured had 2 peaks: one during March-April, coinciding with the ripening of Valencia oranges, and the second, with the highest number, was in July. The availability of the host fruit was the most important factor in the growth of the population.
