Content and uptake of some nutrients by the fruit of mango cv. Manila.

Abstract : In trials in a 31-year-old orchard of mango cv. Manila in Cotaxtla, Mexico, fruits were sampled at 10-day intervals from 20 days after fruit set until maturity. At fruit maturity, whole fruits contained 80.7% water, and the flesh contained 79.0% water and the seed 52.4% water. The pulp represented 81.9% of fresh weight and the growth rate of fruits during ripening averaged 2.85 g/day. The highest K content occurred in the flesh with contents of other nutrients and trace elements highest in peel, stone or seed, but the flesh exhibited the highest nutrient requirement. The rate of nutrient requirements was highest 30-50 days after fruit set, at the highest rate of fruit growth. Data are given for total extraction of each nutrient and trace element.
