Abstract : The effect of leaf infusions of Piper auritum, Solanum mammosum and Annona squamosa was evaluated against Anastrepha spp. infesting guava and mango in the field in Mexico during 1993-94. The infusion of P. auritum alone plus destruction of fallen fruit was also tested in a programme for management of A. obliqua. On guava, the reduction of larvae of A. striata varied from 78 to 90% with P. auritum, while with Annona squamosa or S. mammosum it ranged from 34 to 85%, as compared to the control. All infusions on mangoes resulted in zero infestation, but not in guava where some infested fruits were detected after treatment. Spraying with P. auritum and removing fallen fruit resulted in eradication of Anastrepha obliqua in a mango orchard.
