Effect of period of defoliation and storage of bud wood on veneer grafting in mango (Mangifera indica).

Abstract : In a study of veneer grafting in mango cv. Langra carried out at Bhagalpur, India in 1986-88, budwood was defoliated 4, 8 or 12 days [before detachment?] and stored for 3, 5 or 7 days before grafting onto one-year-old seedlings. The best results (initial grafting success 90%, time to sprouting 7 days) were obtained when scion shoots were defoliated 8 days [before detachment?] and stored for 3 days. When freshly detached and defoliated scions were used, initial grafting success was only 55% and the time to sprouting was 24.13 days.
