Abstract : Black spot disease is a serious threat to mango crops in many tropical and subtropical countries. Available data on Xanthomonas campestris pv. mangiferaeindicae, the causal agent, is analysed. The analysis takes into consideration various components that characterize the activity of the bacterium, including geographical distribution, symptomatology, biology, epidemiology, conservation and dissemination mechanisms. The study concludes with recommendations of control measures that should be taken to maintain mango black spot infections well below the economic damage threshold.
