Flowering characteristics and yield potential of four mango cultivars in Uxmal, Yucatan.

Abstract : Of the 4 cultivars assessed, Tommy Atkins had the highest percentage of hermaphrodite flowers (39%, compared with 7, 6 and 4% in Kensington, Mulgoa and Lucio-1, respectively). No relationship between this parameter and yield (513, 402, 305 and 206 kg/tree in Lucio-1, Kensington, Tommy Atkins and Mulgoa, respectively) was apparent. Mulgoa and Kensington had shorter styles (1.68 mm) than Tommy Atkins (1.87 mm) or Lucio-1 (2.26 mm). The ratio of style length to stamen length was lowest in Mulgoa (0.65 mm), followed by Kensington (0.78 mm), Tommy Atkins (0.80 mm) and Lucio-1 (0.88 mm).
