Effect of ethylene application on pH, acidity, refractometric index and total sugars of mango fruits harvested at the pre-climacteric stage.

Abstract : Fruits of cultivar Keitt were harvested 170 days after fruit set (one week before normal harvest). The fruits were immersed for 5 min in a solution containing Ethrel [ethephon] at 500 or 1000 p.p.m. and later held at ambient temperature (about 28°C). The fruits were sampled 3, 6, 9 and 16 days after treatment for pH, acidity, refractometric index and total sugars. The analysis and interpretation of results obtained showed no statistically significant differences between treatments and the control with regard to fruit quality.
