Abstract : The quality was evaluated of Keitt mangoes stored for 6 days at 20°C under low O2 atmosphere (0.3% O2) (controlled atmosphere, CA) before storage for 30 days at 10 or 20° in modified atmosphere (MA) created by packaging in 3 low density polyethylene (LDPE) films with different characteristics. Every 3 days, fruit samples from CA and MA were evaluated, and every 10 days a sample of treated and untreated fruits were transferred to 20° to determine fruit quality. Both CA and MA delayed losses of weight and firmness. Fruits maintained good appearance with a significant delay in reaching maturity. However, a few fruits packaged in 2 of the 3 films developed a fermented flavour after 10 days at 20°. The results demonstrated that these CA or MA techniques could be used to prolong marketing and shelf-life of this crop.
