Deficiency and excess feeding signs of macro-elements on mango (Mangifera indica L) cv. Dashehari.

Abstract : Potted mango cv. Dashehari seedlings were supplied with complete nutrient solution or with the same solution either excluding or containing double the standard concentration of N, P, K, Ca, Mg or S (a total of 13 treatments). Older leaves turned yellow and showed marginal necrosis due to N, P or K deficiency, and brown taints were found on the older leaves of P-deficient plants. Ca deficiency resulted in shortened internodes. A dark yellow line was observed between necrotic and living tissues in Mg-deficient leaves. S deficiency caused mosaic-like white taints over the entire surface of older leaves. Excess P, K, Ca or Mg reduced leaf and stem DW but not whole plant DW. Excess N, P and K were also responsible for chlorosis and necrosis, particularly in older leaves. Excess Ca resulted in bright green leaves with a white, mosaic-like pattern. The size of new leaves was greatly reduced by excess Mg or S, the latter showing a pinkish coloration.
