Abstract : India is one of the world's richest germplasm centres of mango and a great genetic diversity still exists owing to the large geographical area, diverse climatic conditions and the allopolyploid nature of the origin of mango. The genetic resources of mango that exist are described under the headings: Mangifera species (M. sylvatica, M. khasiana, M. andamanica and M. indica); races of M. indica (seedling and horticultural races); and cultivar collections. Consideration is given to the ecogeographic adaptation of M. indica, and germplasm collection and conservation, including in situ and ex situ conservation.
