Abstract : The ecological and environmental effects of exotic pests and beneficial species are discussed, using Guam as a focal point. Specific examples include the movement of introduced biocontrol agents onto species of the genus Hypolimnas, shifts in the abundance of non-pest species of Lepidoptera on mango in relation to the introduction of biocontrol agents, and changes of abundance of exotic and native predators attacking Heteropsylla cubana and their potential environmental effects. Benefits and problems caused by deliberately introduced biocontrol agents are discussed in relation to insect conservation.
